Copycats of “Requiem for a Dream

The groundbreaking style of Darren Aronofsky’s brilliant film “Requiem for a Dream
— in which Stanley Herman appeared — has inspired numerous imitations...

The Simpsons

One of the best “Requiem” homages is the Simpsons season 14 episode I’m Spelling As Fast As I Can(First Aired: Sunday, 2/16/03). In this episode Homer becomes addicted to the Krustyburger “Ribwich” sandwich. As you can see below, when he eats one it is very similar to when they take drugs in “Requiem.”

Toy Story Mashup

Toy Story II + Requiem for a Dream =

This film short/“preview” is a mashup of visuals from the CGI classic Toy Story with audio from “Requiem for a Dream” and is one of the most perfect things I’ve watched this year! To hear Woody saying “Jeezus, what are you tryin’ ta do? See how you always gotta upset me??” and Jessie the Yodeling Cowgirl saying “Anybody wanna waste some time?” Magic!

Here’s the lineup of this weird little universe as imagined by the folks at AlienPanic.com...

Woody = Harry Goldfarb (Jared Leto)
Cowgirl Jessie = Marion Silver (Jennifer Connelly)
Bo Peep = Sara Goldfarb (Ellen Burstyn)
Buzz Lightyear = Tyrone C. Love (Marlon Wayans)
Tappy Tibbons = Tappy Tibbons (Christopher McDonald) (no change!)
Evil Emperor Zurg = Big Tim (Keith David)
Al McWhiggin = Some Dumb-ass Junkie (no voice)

The only problem is that Uncle Hank doesn’t make an appearance. It has been theorized elsewhere that this could be worked in with Mr. Potatohead saying the famous “ass-to-ass” line, and I heartily agree!
